HIKING: Rainbow Lakes

Over the 4th of July weekend, I packed up the dogs and headed to the rents house for a fun filled day of hiking. Mom made her usual AWESOME picnic lunch and we headed up the mountain. Of course, the first 30 minutes of the trip Tucker was anxiously waiting in the back of the truck whining ever so quietly. JUST enough to drive Momma nuts (finally he calmed down).

Finally we pulled into the town of Frisco, Colorado. Apparently there was an Arts Festival going on that weekend so it was quite busy! We all geared up and headed up towards Rainbow lake. The rents specifically picked this route so the kids could play in the water…too bad my kids ‘no much care for’ the water. *sigh* It’s the thought that counts…right?

When we got to the lake there were a lot of people there watching their dogs play in the water, it was great! I got the chance to grab a couple of videos of the pups playing in the water…

But the best part was this yellow lab…the owner threw this log out as a joke, but she went and got it! Show off!!

This hike was absolutely beautiful! Wild flowers everywhere and a nice trail along the river. Here are some pics that I took along the way. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera that day so all of these were taken with my iPhone.

I highly recommend it and will definitely do this hike again.

Mantra Monday: Hiking!

Mantra Monday

~ Hiking ~

As I have written before, I love to hike all around the state of Colorado. I have posted a few blurbs about hiking this year, but I am going to make it my Mantra for this week (or the rest of the summer) to schedule out, write and review hikes for the rest of the summer. And maybe even purchase a new trail book too! I know, I know…I’m getting ahead of myself since I haven’t had much time to blog lately but this is my passion and I have to get back to it, right?!?!

I live in such a beautiful state and I adore wildflowers…so I need to get out and play more! Keep your eyes open for my posting on Rainbow Lake up in Frisco!

It’s Hiking Season

HOORAY!! Have I mentioned HOW much I love hiking? I love it so much that I actually gave up one of my weekend Jazzercise classes {*sniff sniff ~ a very hard decision} to start hiking again. Last season, I had a couple of books that I would use to find trails throughout Colorado. Well…those books have either been chewed up or taken by accident {*ahem* YOU know who you are *giggle*}...so I bought a couple of new ones for this year.

So far, I have taken a few hikes using the book ‘Best Hikes with Dogs – Colorado’…I know shocking that I would buy this book huh?

I flipped through my book last week and decided that I was going to take a during the week daytime hike. I was lucky enough to have my friend Brandon come along with me…Jessy was very fond of him. So I packed up the pups and headed up to Morrison, Colorado to meet Brandon.

We decided to take the ‘Bear Creek Trail through 4 Parks’ in Kittredge, Colorado. According to the book, you are supposed to end up in Lair ‘o the Bear Open Space park…um ya, we didn’t find it. Not sure what trail head we ended up taking, but it was pretty. It was hot & humid that day so we got a pretty decent workout. And yes, I did bring my camera…I just forgot ONE minor detail, the battery. *sigh* I guess that’s what you get for the first hike of the year…I am starting to get better about ‘gearing’ up now.

All in all, even though we didn’t do the right trail it was still beautiful…Colorado is such an amazing state. So, if you have time, I’d recommend trying out the Bear Creek Trail through 4 Parks trail…and let me know if you were able to find the open space park.

More hikes to come…

Mantra Monday: Cooking

Mantra Monday

~ COOKING ~

OK, OK…I know it’s not Monday, but I can still post this…right?!?!

I have been eating out WAY too much lately…so I’ve decided that this week; I am going to start cooking again. I have this beautiful outdoor grill that has not been used all summer! And after having to move it back to its spot after a horrendous wind storm a few months ago, I should be using it! And I even bought a propane tank and it sits all lonely in my garage.

I miss cooking and I miss updating my cooking blog, so let’s hope that I can get motivated and start cooking and blogging again. Summer time is the best time for healthy cooking so why not start now?!?!

So this girl is off to build her shopping list {using the BEST iPhone app EVER Grocery Gadgets} and start picking out some new recipes to try from my various cookbooks! Here’s hoping that I can stay motivated!
