Mantra Monday: Portion Control

Mantra Monday

~ Portion Control ~

This week starts the season of eating. Good times. Now, I’m not going to lie…this girl LOVES to eat…and I’m pretty good at it. It took me several years to get back to my ideal weight so I must pace myself.

My Mantra for this week is to practice portion control. One of the biggest things that Weight Watchers talks about it control your portions…as American’s we tend to over indulge in food and pay for it in our waist line.

My first potluck starts on Friday, and it’s downhill from there…so please wish me luck!

Spaz Moment of the Day: Gag-a-rific

Spaz

There has been a new visitor in the Tuffy’s Tales household. Not only is she freaking adorable, but she is kind of a spaz. So she fits in just fine.

Allow me to introduce… SLINKIE!

So…here’s my spaz moment of the day. As we head off to go pick up dinner on a Friday night…Tucker is not feeling so hot (I did not know this or else I wouldn’t have put him in the car). We pull out of the neighborhood and Tucker starts to vomit profusely in the back seat of the car. Now…anyone that knows me knows that I do NOT deal well with puke. So I start uncontrollably gagging over and over listening to Tucker puke.

Slinkie jumps into the front seat to get away from Tucker; she takes one look at me gagging and starts to gag herself. I have NEVER seen a dog dry heave before. So you can imagine the ‘hot mess’ that is going on in this car. You’ve got two girls gagging while a boy is puking in the back…and poor Jessy is just sitting back there hoping that her brother doesn’t throw up on her and Randy is holding Slinkie hoping that she doesn’t puke on him. It was quite the fiasco!

But no worries, Tucker is OK. I got over the dry heaving fit and so did Slinkie!

Grateful Posting: Hot Tea

~Hot Tea~

So I have been feeling a bit under the weather over the last few days…and one of the worst things about having a cold is the ucky throat {I have a por-chu-pine in my froat}. My company provides free coffee & tea for the employees and I noticed that Celestial Seasoning Peppermint Tea was one of them. Peppermint tea is the BEST on a sore throat!

Today, I am grateful for hot tea. It makes me throat feel better and leaves me feeling comforted.

Mantra Monday: Save Money!

Mantra Monday

~ Save Money! ~

Whew! I have not been on here in a while…you think I was busy or something.

So, I’ve noticed over the last few months that I spend A LOT of money on food and groceries. I have never been one to look for deals or use coupons. In fact, I’ve always been a bit embarrassed to used coupons—I’m not sure why, but I carry them with me, but NEVER use them. I never pay attention to the ads and what is on sale at the store, I just grab what I like and go.

Over the last few months, I have been watching my spending habits {because who doesn’t want to improve that?!?!} and noticing that every other area is great, I just spend a lot of money at the grocery store and/or on food. I’ve signed up for all sorts of coupon deals online that get emailed to me once a week and you think I’d use them…but nope, I don’t. They sit in an envelope in my purse and eventually expire. Why do I do that? Why do I buy stuff at the grocery store, like general merchandise items, when I KNOW that they are cheaper at Wal-Mart? Both places are equal distance from my house, I am just lazy.

Now, I’m not going to lie…I will avoid going to the store like it’s the plague. I hate it. Stupid people piss me off, I have NO tolerance for misbehaved children, and the shopping carts are ALWAYS broken. But I love home cooked meals. *sigh* Plus, I miss posting on my cooking blog!

So, all that being said...here is my Mantra for the week--OK, there are several of them:
  1. I WILL use the coupons that are in my purse by the end of this week.
  2. I WILL break down all of my lists by store and what items are cheaper at Wal-Mart as opposed to the grocery store.
  3. I WILL bring my lunches and enjoy my home cooked meals.
